Carson, CA: Ann Marie Gallant filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the city claiming Carson City Manager Jerry Groomes fired her in retaliation for her role in uncovering a bribery scandal. Gallant received a misdirected fax that contained confidential information about a Browning-Ferris Industries competitor and raised questions about the integrity of the city's bidding process for trash haulers. Groomes fired Gallant in September 2003 and she filed a wrongful termination lawsuit soon after. The Carson City Council approved a $430,000 settlement; Gallant will receive $215,000.
