LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Sacred Heart Hospital
In August 2005, 8-year-old Jahmir Bates was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for an elective and routine tonsillectomy. During the operation, Jahmir experienced respiratory failure and suffered a catastrophic brain injury; he was left blind, mute and unable to walk or eat. His family filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the Allentown hospital and several doctors. Jahmir suffered from severe sleep apnea, and the lawsuit claimed doctors failed to check his medical history before operating. Sacred Heart Hospital will pay $6.2 million for their insufficient pediatric and anesthesia care. (Dec-02-06)
