Sherwin-Williams Co. and PPG Industries Inc.
This is a settlement for the Antitrust lawsuit.
A class action lawsuit was filed against the companies for allegedly inflating prices for auto refinishing paint. Six auto centers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Illinois sued Sherwin-Williams and PPG on behalf of consumers who bought auto refinish paint between January 1, 1993, and December 31, 2000. The class action was filed in the US District Court of Philadelphia against the car paint maker and paint retailer for allegedly violating antitrust laws by conspiring to fix prices in the US. PPG will pay $23 million and Sherwin-Williams will pay $16 million. In 2004, DuPont Co. settled the case for $36 million and BASF AG paid $12 million. (Jan-06-07)
