LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
White County School District
American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit against the school district after banning all non-curricular clubs as a way to keep out a gay straight alliance. The lawsuit claimed school officials violated the high school students' rights under the federal Equal Access Act, which requires schools to provide equal treatment to all non-curricular clubs. According to the settlement agreement, the White County School District must make a $10,000 payment to Peers Rising in Diverse Education and must pay $168,000 to the ACLU in attorneys' fees.
