Exeter, NH: William Slavoski, a US Secret Service agent, in charge of the Secret Service's Scranton office, who claimed he was falsely arrested by two Exeter borough police officers, has settled a federal lawsuit against the borough and officers for $125,000. The suit filed by Slavoski alleged he had been falsely charged by borough officers with simple assault and other offenses when he had gone to the police station on January 9th, 2005 to reclaim his son who had been arrested on charges of alleged underage drinking. Police officers had cited the boy for underage drinking though breath analyzer tests showed no evidence of alcohol consumption. Slavoski accused the officers of falsely framing him and claimed that it was a backlash in retaliation to his criticism of the investigation. He claimed the charges created considerable problems for him at work and he was placed on paid administrative leave for three months during Secret Service investigations. Subsequently, a district judge dismissed the charges against both William and Jason Slavoski, due to inconclusive evidence. Slavoski's attorney, Barry Dyller, said the settlement was paid by the borough's insurance carrier and as part of the settlement, police did not admit to any wrongdoing. (Jan-23-07)
