Madison County, AL

Huntsville, AL: (Feb-17-07) A federal whistleblower lawsuit was filed against the defunct Working Connection welfare-to-work program by Tommie Lockhart, former executive director of the company from December 1999 to August 2000. The program was designed to help find jobs for parents who did not have custody of their children, to help those parents pay child support. In October 2001, a suit was filed under the federal False Claims Act and ended with five of the six commissioners voting to pay $53,750 as the county's part of a $110,000 settlement. Lockhart will receive 30 percent of the settlement. [HUNTSVILLE TIMES: WHISTLEBLOWER]
