Hickman Mills School District
Kansas City, MO: (Feb-25-07) A lawsuit stemming from disputed events at Ruskin High School cost the Hickman Mills School District $600,000. A student, who was allegedly forced to perform a sex act at school, later claimed that she was raped for reporting the act. Her parents filed a suit against the school district for allegedly violating the girl's rights against discrimination and sexual harassment by being deliberately indifferent to the ridicule she endured. The lawsuit also claimed the district failed to reasonably investigate her reports about the incident. In settling with the parents, the district took no responsibility for the alleged attacks.
