LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION

Honeywell International Inc.

Phoenix, AZ: (Feb-23-07) The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality filed suit against Honeywell International Inc., the world's largest maker of airplane controls, claiming that the company failed to get a permit for two thermal-treatment units. The lawsuit also claimed Honeywell underreported hazardous waste containing cadmium by inaccurately classifying it as solid waste. Honeywell employees were uninformed of how to handle the waste or how to respond in an emergency. Arizona notified Honeywell of the violation in November 2005, informing it about cadmium toxicity. Cadmium can irritate the digestive tract, cause kidney disease and damage the lungs. Honeywell settled the lawsuit by paying out $500,000. [AZ CENTRAL: HONEYWELL WASTE]
