Colorado Department of Transportation

Adams County, CO: (Mar-21-07) Wanda Morris sued the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) after a soil sample from her house showed that salt levels were 80 times more than normal at over 10,000ppm, the highest recorded in Colorado for 23 years. The CDOT had a maintenance shed just above her terraced backyard and it was discovered that for years CDOT had left de-icer materials uncovered in the parking lot of its road maintenance facility near 84th Avenue and Interstate 25, causing the contamination. In a settlement reached, the court verdict declared that the damages were a direct, natural, and probable result of the storage of these materials in this unprotected manner. It also awarded Morris a sum of $80,000. [DENVER CHANNEL: SALT CONTAMINATION]
