LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Society of Jesus, Oregon Province
Portland, OR: (Mar-29-07) Two civil suits were filed against retired 83-year-old Jesuit priest Rev. James E. Jacobson and Society of Jesus, Oregon Province, by four people from Western Alaska. Two men sued Jacobson for child support, and two women, one the mother of one of the men, accused him of rape. In a CNN news program featuring Jacobson, a video taped deposition aired him acknowledging that he is the father of two more children which he has never supported or cared for. He also admitted to numerous sexual encounters with seven women in rural communities, but denied forcing nonconsensual sex. He also admitted to paying for prostitutes using church and Jesuit money. The Society of Jesus agreed to pay $1.96 million agreement plus therapists fees in an out-of-court agreement in order to formally resolve claims.
