LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Pittsburgh, PA
Pittsburgh, PA: (Apr-04-07) The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit on behalf of Police Commander Catherine McNeilly against the city when she was demoted in 2006 after criticizing Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's nominee for public safety director, Dennis Regan and sharing a confidential police personnel file with council members to derail the nomination. She assigned personal motives for Ravenstahl's nomination. Denying claims, the mayor and police chief claimed McNeilly had been demoted for violating police bureau procedure. In a settlement reached, city council members approved for the city to pay McNeilly $85,000 as well as reinstate her to her former position ending the police commander's federal whistleblower lawsuit.
