eDirectSoftware
Billings, MT: (Apr-05-07) Microsoft Corp. brought a civil lawsuit in US District Court in Billings against eDirectSoftware accusing it of selling unlicensed software to non-students at student discounts. The suit alleged that eDirectSoftware was guilty of software piracy as well as trademark and copyright law violations. eDirectSoftware officials admitted to improperly selling student-discounted software, smuggled in from Jordan and other countries and resold at a great discount to non-students. In a settlement reached, eDirectSoftware agreed to pay $1 million to end the lawsuit. According to its Web site, Microsoft filed nine lawsuits in April 2007 over the international student software scam and has sent 55 cease-and-desist letters.
