Town & Country Resort Hotel and Convention Center
Mission Valley, CA: (Apr-08-07) Town & Country Resort Hotel and Convention Center was charged by federal regulators with illegal construction of a parking lot next to the waterway. The suit began in November 2005 after a local environmentalist questioned the hotel's grading project for the parking lot, which is largely shielded from public view by trees and brush along the river. After inspecting the site, state and city officials said Town & Country and its paving contractor broke the law by grading about an acre near the river, importing and stockpiling fill dirt, and building a parking lot between the hotel and the river. The San Diego City Attorney's Office reached a settlement with the Town & Country Resort Hotel and Convention Center with the Mission Valley hotel agreeing to pay more than $1 million, as well as remove part of the lot and donate an open-space easement along the San Diego River to make amends for damages incurred over the illegal construction.
