This is a settlement for the Medical Malpractice lawsuit.
Zanesville, OH: (Apr-21-07) Terry Perkins, 63, a Duncan Falls former field engineer who once worked on turbines, filed charges against Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgical Associates, after undergoing procedures that left him blind and caused brain damage. Perkins went in for a routine stress test at Genesis HealthCare System in Zanesville when some blockage was discovered and he was recommended for a heart catheterization on Nov. 9, 2000, by cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Byran E. McDonnell. McDonnell had been employed by the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon Association of Columbus, which was helping Genesis HealthCare System with its new heart unit. Left on his own in the ICU, Perkins heart arrested and he was down 40 minutes, causing damage to his brain and eyes. McDonnell had assumed the nurses would take care of Perkins once he came into the ICU unit after surgery. In a settlement reached, a jury awarded Perkins $154,637.50 for his past medical bills, $292,274 for future life care, $750,000 for wages loss, $250,000 for future wages loss, and $553,088.50 for pain and suffering.
