Kerr Real Estate Inc.
Lewisville, TX: (Apr-19-07) The US Army Criminal Investigation Division, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the US Attorney's office filed charges against Double Oak developer Frank Kerr and Kerr Real Estate Inc., following a year long investigation revealing damages incurred by the removal of 4,000 trees on federal property at Lewisville Lake. The lake provided crucial habitat for fish and wildlife, which could be affected by Kerr's decision to cut down the trees by a chain saw over an area that covers 83 acres, close to where Kerr's development is being built. In a settlement reached, Frank Kerr and Kerr Real Estate Inc. have agreed to pay $630,000 as well as make storm water drainage improvements, and create a hiking trail for public use. Though the developer denied wrongdoing, the payout enabled him to continue to build a tract of $125,000 to $450,000 homes along the lake.
