Grafton County, NH

Grafton County, NH: (Apr-23-07) Sgt. Donald Marren, an officer on the Gilford police force, was driving a marked cruiser with his emergency lights activated in the city of Laconia when he ran a red light and struck, at the intersection of Union Avenue and South Main Street, a car driven by Patrick Wood. The nighttime crash caused Wood and his passenger, then fiancée and now wife Mary Jane Neinas to suffer severe injuries, including a broken hip and multiple pelvic fractures, resulting in a prolonged hospitalization and extreme pain and disability. Patrick Wood suffered soft-tissue injuries to his spine, cervical radicular syndrome, brachial plexus stretch injury, cord contusion, and a permanent build-up of scar tissue on ligaments of the cervical spine. The couple sued the town, claiming the municipality was negligent in its hiring, training and supervising of Marren. A jury ruled, finding that Marren and the town of Gilford were 95% responsible for the crash and awarded the Woods $110,000. [CITIZEN OF LACONIA: CRUISER CRASH]
