Jerome Kaye and John Tertel
This is a settlement for the Commercial lawsuit.
Lancaster, PA: (Apr-24-07) Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett filed charges against Jerome Kaye with a primary place of business located at 2050 Columbia Ave, Lancaster, and John Tertel, doing business as The Hearing Advocate, 270 Park Place, Mahanoy City, accusing them of unfair and deceptive business practices in Pennsylvania. The suit claimed that the two individuals deliberately took advantage of consumers who trusted them to provide responsible and professional care and advice regarding their medical needs. Kaye and Tertel both allegedly failed to provide customers with proper documentation - disclosure agreements, receipts, medical waivers, and charged consumers a cancellation fee that exceeded the maximum allowed by the Hearing Aid Law. In a settlement agreement reached, Kaye agreed to pay $35,000 to the Commonwealth: $10,000 in civil penalties and $25,000 toward future public protection purposes. Tertel is ordered to pay a total of $15,000 to the Commonwealth: $10,000 in civil penalties and $5,000 toward public protection purposes.
