Lancaster, CA: (Apr-25-07) Erik Aude filed a federal lawsuit in a Los Angeles court against an Islamabad man, who set him up, hiring him to believe he was an international courier for a supposed leather-goods importer. Erik Aude, a former All-Southern Section football player from Bethel Christian High in Lancaster, served nearly three years in a Pakistani prison on heroin-smuggling charges, after being set up, when he was found transporting drugs sewn into suitcases. Aude alleged that he was hung by his feet and beaten during some of the many torture sessions he said he endured in prison, including one in which his fingers were broken one by one, until he was released in late December 2004. The Los Angeles court granted Aude a $20 million civil judgment. Aude also has sold the movie rights to his story to Hollywood producer Robert Chartkoff of "Rocky" fame and continues to live in Sherman Oaks.
