Springfield, MA
Springfield, MA: (May-07-07) Douglas Greer, a black man and principal of the Robert M. Hughes Academy Charter School in Springfield, filed suit against the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, claiming that he was attacked by five white police officers as an act of discrimination. The suit stated that Greer was pulled from his car by the officers in January 2005 as he was having a diabetic attack while parked at a convenience store. Greer claimed the officers kicked and choked him and wrongfully accused him of being on drugs. Police claim they were trying to restrain Greer as he thrashed and screamed before he was taken to a hospital for treatment. The officers admitted no liability as the city reached an agreement with Greer, offering him a $180,000 settlement to resolve the wrongful accusation and discrimination lawsuit.
