Kennedy Valve
New York, NY: (May-10-07) The New York State Attorney General's Office brought charges against Kennedy Valve, a Southern Tier manufacturer, alleging that it was guilty of environmental crimes. The suit claimed that Kennedy Valve in Elmira was guilty of unlawfully handling hazardous waste by repeatedly disposing tons of waste containing lead at the Chemung County landfill over the course of several years. Kennedy Valve pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawfully handling hazardous waste, and former plant manager, Ronald Wagner of Hornby, also pleaded guilty to offering a false instrument for filing, for claiming the waste was non-hazardous. In a settlement reached with the AG's office, Kennedy Valve agreed to pay a $300,000 fine and an additional $1.5 million for a program to reduce childhood lead exposure in Chemung County.
