Kevin Pastrick
Chicago, IL: (May-16-07) Carpenters Union officials filed a lawsuit against Kevin Pastrick, over the issue of a multimillion-dollar land swindle that landed the son of former East Chicago mayor Robert Pastrick and other political kingpins, in federal prison. The suit which was fought over three years resulted in a settlement in which Pastrick, who still is serving a three-year prison term for his role in the real estate deal, agreed to repay the Carpenters Union Pension Trust Fund $150,000.
Fund attorneys have also reached a settlement agreement with Lake Erie Land Co. The case stemmed from Lake Erie selling the 55 acres of land in Chesterton that would become the Coffee Creek development and the center of the federal investigation. Kevin Pastrick and Manous paid Nannenga a $45,000 bribe from their inflated commission on the sale of the Coffee Creek property. The union paid $10 million for the land, which was later assessed at half that price. Kevin Pastrick, former union officer Gerry Nannenga, Lake County Democratic Party head Peter Manous and Pastrick's business partner, Carl Ihle Jr., all were sentenced to prison terms. Manous agreed to pay a $125,000 settlement last August. Ihle agreed to a $75,000 settlement later that year and Nannenga settled for $150,000.
