Jeffrey Stone

Ravenna, OH: (May-16-07) Neighborhood Development Service booked charges against Jeffrey Stone, a former Ravenna city property maintenance officer, over a questionable tree-removal contract. The suit stemmed from Stone, a former property inspector for the city, signing a deal with NDS President William Hale in September 2004 allowing Stone to remove trees from NDS property. According to claims in the lawsuit, Hale thought Stone would remove only a few trees for his furniture business. However, Stone later signed two contracts with Trumbull County Hardwoods Ltd. of Middlefield to sell the trees for a total of $115,800. Stone represented himself in those contracts as the landowner, the suit charged. Stone, who was fired by the city mainly because of the tree-deal agreement, filed a counterclaim against NDS about two months after the organization sued him. Neighborhood Development Service has settled for an award of $45,000 on the alleged $115,000 owed by Stone for selling Harvest Hills timber. [RECORDPUB: TREE CUTTING]
