Jamal Ford

New York, NY: (May-29-07) Jamal Ford, who was driving down the streets of Brooklyn, jumped a traffic signal causing an accident that left the driver of the smashed car with permanent brain damage. The accident took place in September 2004, a year before Ford was shot to death in East New York, Brooklyn. On being faced with charges, Jamal Ford had insisted he did not run a red light causing the accident, but two witnesses driving behind the victim on Pitkin Ave. at Hinsdale St. in Brooklyn came forward to say he had a green light. The witnesses paved the way for Troy Martino, 41, the victim in the accident, to receive a $2.5 million settlement from Ford's insurer. Troy Martino's lawyers claimed that though the money could not restore Martino to his former health, it would serve to ensure that the rest of his life would be comfortable. The settlement will cover the costs of continuing rehabilitation for Martino, who suffers short-term memory loss due to the severe head trauma from the accident.
