Tazewell County, IL
Pekin, IL: (May-31-07) Kody Leuallen filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Tazewell County, alleging that the county allowed a prison guard to sexually harass her while she was incarcerated there in 2005. In the lawsuit, Leuallen claims that Corrections Officer Timothy Gregory subjected her to unwanted sexual contact on three occasions, intimidating her and making her feel as though she had to comply with his requests for sex. Further, the suit claimed that she was intimidated by Gregory into writing a sexually explicit letter. Leuallen filed the sexual harassment suit in August 2006, originally asking for $250,000. In a settlement reached, the Tazewell County board voted to award Leuallen $100,000 for her sexual harassment lawsuit. The Tazewell County Sheriff's Department brought charges against another Tazewell County corrections officer, Robert Handegan, claiming that he had a sexual relationship with Leuallen after she was out of jail and charging him with four counts of conduct unbecoming of an officer.
