LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Brick Investment Corporation and 7th Street Associates, Inc.
Los Angeles, CA: (Jun-03-07) The US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the US Environmental Protection Agency had filed suit against twelve Los Angeles-area property owners and one property management company, accusing them of failing to inform tenants that their homes might contain potentially dangerous levels of lead, in violation of federal disclosure rules.
In a settlement reached, Brick Investment Corporation, as general partner for eight companies, and 7th Street Associates, Inc., have agreed to pay a total civil fine of $125,000 and certify that they are now in full compliance with the Lead Disclosure Rule. The lawsuits were filed in an effort to remind all landlords that the federal government will do everything it can to protect the health and safety of children. Lead poisoning is a serious health threat for children around the country and the government will continue to enforce lead disclosure laws until childhood lead poisoning is eliminated.
