Solano County, CA

Fairfield, CA: (Jun-04-07) Anheuser Busch, an international brewery, filed suit against Solano County, claiming that the county wrongly charged millions of dollars as taxes. The long-running tax dispute alleged that since 2000, Anheuser Busch has been overcharged taxes on its property in Fairfield to a tune of $2,889,910. While the county claimed the brewery is valued at nearly $265 million, Anheuser Busch claimed the value to be $167 million.

If the proposed settlement is approved, the county would have to refund $258,636 and adjust the value of the property for future assessment. The two sides agreed on the value of the property and buildings that house the brewery, but had issues elsewhere. The dispute revolves around the value of the brewery equipment, more specifically, how it is valued as it depreciates. Anheuser Busch is one of four companies that filed appeals in 2006. Included are the Valero Refinery in Benicia and Genentech in Vacaville. Solano County has also reached a settlement with Valero, who claimed that it had overpaid the county by almost $10 million between 2000 and 2006. [VALLEJO TIMES HERALD: PROPERTY TAX]
