Pittsburgh Brewing Co.
Pittsburgh, PA: (Jun-09-07) The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority board filed suit against Pittsburgh Brewing Co. alleging that the brewery owed as much as $2.7 million in back payments to the water authority. The brewery, known for its Iron City Beer, ran up delinquent sewer bills and penalties. The authority paid the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority for Pittsburgh Brewing's sewage production, as it does for all customers, but was not repaid, in turn, by the brewery.
In a settlement reached, Pittsburgh Brewing agreed to pay $1.75 million to resolve the allegations. Under the terms, the brewery will pay the authority $200,000 immediately, $300,000 more over three years, and another $1 million in 2010. Alcosan will pay the water authority $500,000 in recognition of the fact that the authority paid the brewery's sewer bills. The settlement will play a key role in the company's recovery plan, approved by US Bankruptcy Court Chief Judge M. Bruce McCullough. [POST GAZETTE: SEWER BILL]
