Amalia and Julio Palmaz
Napa, CA: (Jun-13-07) Napa County officials filed suit against the owners of Palmaz Vineyards in April 2007, alleging that they violated land use regulations. Among other allegations, county officials claimed that Amalia and Julio Palmaz had improperly planted 750 vines too close to a stream and failed to get proper permits before repairing or reconstructing two bridges over the stream.
In a settlement reached, Amalia and Julio Palmaz agreed to pay $550,000, remove hundreds of creek side vines, and plant 160 trees to settle charges. In addition to paying the fines, the Palmazes have hired experts and conducted environmental studies that will bring the winery's overall cost to resolve the case to about $1.25 million. The lawsuit is said to represent the largest monetary judgment of its kind in the county. [KTVU NEWS: NAPA VINES]
