Salem, MA: (Jun-14-07) The US Environmental Protection Agency filed a lawsuit against the Salem Housing Authority, alleging that it was guilty of withholding information by failing to notify tenants about lead paint risks. The Salem agency owns and manages more than 700 low-income housing units in 23 locations around the city. In a settlement reached, the Salem Housing Authority has agreed to a nearly $235,000 payout to resolve allegations. As part of the settlement agreement, the Environmental Protection Agency requires the Salem Housing Authority to hire a consultant to train 235 other local housing authorities in Massachusetts about lead paint notification.
