Five Star Parking
San Francisco, CA: (Jun-16-07) The city of San Francisco filed a lawsuit against Five Star Parking, a private company that manages a 1,100 space garage in San Francisco's Financial District, alleging that its workers stole parking fees. A city commissioned report revealed that the San Francisco Parking Authority suffered from problems throughout the agency. The report claimed that the Parking Authority was too passive in its approach to safeguarding revenues. The suit further alleged that the Los Angeles company also improperly billed the city for operating expenses for two private garages in the city's South of Market neighborhood.
As part of a settlement reached, Five Star Parking agreed to pay nearly $5 million to resolve allegations. The settlement proposal awaits final approval by the Municipal Transportation Agency board of directors. [KSBY NEWS: PARKING FEES]
