San Antonio, TX

San Antonio, TX: (Jun-18-07) Grace Estrada filed a personal injury lawsuit against the city and its fire station, after a firefighter told her to jump on his back and slide down the station's pole. Estrada fell and sustained several injuries. Four women, including Estrada, were at a late-night party at Fire Station 10 in 2004, when the incident occurred. Doctors put metal rods in Estrada's back to help her heal from her injuries, and the suit put the medical fees at $122,000. City officials claimed that Estrada may need more surgery in the future. In 2005, then-San Antonio Fire Chief Robert Ojeda announced the firing of two firefighters and suspensions of six others stemming from the party, and because the misconduct was pretty severe, the city decided not to try the case. As part of the settlement reached, the city agreed to pay Estrada $150,000, ending the personal injury suit. [WOAI NEWS: FIRE POLE INJURY]
