MiraCosta College
Oceanside, CA: (Jun-21-07) Victoria Munoz Richart, president of MiraCosta College, filed charges against the college, after she was terminated from her position. College officials stated that in December 2006, nearly 70% of the faculty voted "no confidence" in Richart's leadership. Richart had come under fire for her handling of the investigation into the sale of palm trees by employees in the college's horticulture department.
In a settlement reached, Richart negotiated a buyout worth at least $1 million that will see her employment end June 30, 2007. The settlement included a deal granting Richart $650,000 in damages. The agreement prohibited trustees from discussing its details and from giving opinions about Richart's performance during her three-year tenure leading the 10,000 student college which has campuses in Oceanside and Cardiff.
