LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
James Reedy and Reedy's Roofing Services, North Texas Single Ply roofing company, Johnson Warehouse
Las Colinas, TX: (Jun-26-07) A lawsuit was filed on behalf of three surviving children of Bobby Patton of Burleson, Texas, who died from work related injuries in late 2005 during cleanup efforts following Hurricane Katrina. Patton's children, ages18, 15, and 14, filed suit against general contractors James Reedy and Reedy's Roofing Services of Belton, Texas; North Texas Single Ply roofing company of Joshua, Texas; and Johnson Warehouse-Louisiana, owner of the property where Patton was killed. Patton was working on a warehouse roof in Kenner, LA, to help clear damage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina when he fell through an unmarked skylight and plunged to a concrete floor below. He died from his injuries while rescuers worked for 30 minutes to try to unlock the warehouse doors.
The wrongful death suit claimed that the defendants failed to properly mark the skylight openings or provide protection for Patton in case of a fall. Three days prior to Patton's death, one of his co-workers fell through another unmarked skylight on the same roof. In a settlement reached, the defendants agreed to pay $700,000 to resolve the allegations. [PEGASUS NEWS: WORKER FALL DEATH]
