Waterview Estates
Little Rock, AR: (Jul-12-07) The Central Arkansas Water Association (CAW) has been embroiled in a long standing legal battle with Waterview Estates over a controversial development along the Maumelle watershed. In a settlement reached following a favorable vote, despite overwhelming opposition from citizens' groups, the two parties agreed on the future course of action. The disputed project is located on a site that is CAW's primary source for drinking water, serving some 400,000 customers. The agreement would set aside 179 acres for a diversion ditch designed to channel drainage away from the lake. Another 122 acres would serve as a conservation easement. Further, Waterview Estates will establish a fund of $1 million, which would be set aside to pay landowners. Waterview Estates agreed to working closely with CAW, while they build a subdivision near the northern shore of Lake Maumelle.
