Salvatore Cascino
Copake, NY: (Jul-17-07) Town authorities filed an environmental damage lawsuit against Copake Valley Farm owner Salvatore Cascino, alleging that he illegally filled in wetlands, damaging endangered reptiles' habitat to a degree too substantial to make them recoverable. The suit claimed that Cascino disturbed the Noster Kill, a protected trout stream, by discharging storm water run-off associated with the disposal of construction and demolition debris.
In a settlement reached, the owner of a Bronx-based waste hauling business would be required to delineate the wetlands and map them on a Geographic Information System. Further, he has been ordered to pay an $80,000 fine plus a second penalty of $50,000 that will help pay for rehabilitation projects to restore bog turtle habitats. [Z WIRE: WASTE HAULING]
