Tracy, CA
Tracy, CA: (Jul-25-07) Students who did not pass the California High School Exit Exam brought a lawsuit against the state. In an out-of-court settlement reached, California high schools will offer diploma-exam preparation classes for an additional two years to those who did not pass the tests with the rest of their classmates. Public schools have the responsibility to make sure all teenagers have the knowledge and skills to pass the 10th-grade-level English and math tests. Since the settlement agreement has been implemented, about 92% of the students have passed the tests. Further, the settlement will ensure that the schools will not be able to turn their backs on the unfortunate students who do not graduate on time. The state has agreed to spend $73 million to provide remediation to current and former students who haven't passed the English and math tests.
