Our Town Family Services
Tucson, AZ: (Jul-26-07) Jeff Pierson and Julie Maynard, the parents of Ray Darrin Pierson, brought a lawsuit against Our Town Family Services, the nonprofit agency that runs a popular downtown hangout for teenagers, alleging that they were responsible for the death of their 27-year-old son. Darrin Pierson was shot and killed outside Skrappy's, 210 E. Broadway, in 2006 after a fight broke out there during a concert billed as part of the "Street Brutality Tour." Pierson's parents believe their son was trying to protect the crowd from what he believed was a threat. The suit, filed in Pima County Superior Court, claimed that insufficient security was posted at the concert.
In a settlement reached, Our Town Family Services agreed to pay the family $150,000 to settle the wrongful death lawsuit. The shooter, Jordan Asch, will pay Maynard and the elder Pierson $100,000 in the settlement though Asch was not charged in the suit. [TUCSON CITIZEN: SKRAPPY'S MURDER]
