Long Beach Township, NJ
Long Beach Township, NJ: (Jul-28-07) Andrew Barchetto, a Bergen County man, filed a lawsuit against the township after a Beach Patrol pickup in the North Beach section of the township injured him. Barchetto said in his lawsuit he suffered lacerations and scars of the lower abdomen, disfigurement of both his legs, multiple disc herniations and emotional trauma due to the incident. The pickup's rear wheel drove over Barchetto's thigh. The lawsuit, filed in June 2005, also stated that Barchetto lost wages and was required to spend money for medical care, and, due to his injuries, customary activities are limited. Barchetto alleged that the township was negligent and created an unreasonable risk of harm to beach goers by creating a dangerous condition on public property.
In a settlement reached, the township agreed to pay Barchetto $50,000 as compensation. The settlement amount will be paid by the Ocean County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund. [PRESS OF ATLANTIC CITY: BEACH PATROL ACCIDENT]
