Cazenovia, NY
Syracuse, NY: (Aug-02-07) A former Cazenovia worker filed a lawsuit against the town alleging that his bosses retaliated against him for whistleblowing. The worker was employed by the town of Cazenovia and notified the town and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation of possible violations of environmental laws by the town during 2006. Following that complaint, the plaintiff claimed he was harassed over several months and twice suspended. He filed a whistleblower complaint with the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). He stated that he was assigned to cut trees during unsafe weather conditions and suffered a disabling injury. OSHA found that the suspensions, harassment and assignment to work under dangerous conditions were retaliation for the environmental complaints. The agency decided on not disclosing the name of the employee.
In a settlement reached, Cazenovia, which is in Madison County, about 25 miles southeast of Syracuse, agreed to pay nearly $100,000 in damages and back wages to resolve the allegations. [WCAX TV NEWS: TOWN WHISTLEBLOWER]
