Mike Peterson

Raleigh, NC: (Aug-03-07) Caitlin Atwater brought a lawsuit against her stepfather, convicted murderer Mike Peterson, over the wrongful death of her mother Kathleen Peterson. Mike Peterson, 63, was convicted in October 2003 of first-degree murder in the 2001 beating death of his wife, Nortel Networks executive Kathleen Peterson. She was found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their Durham mansion. Peterson, a former Durham mayoral candidate and novelist, claimed that his wife fell down the staircase and died. In a settlement reached, though Peterson did not admit to guilt in the death of his wife, he agreed to a $25 million settlement with his stepdaughter. He is currently serving a life sentence at Nash Correctional Institution. [WRAL NEWS: MURDERED MOTHER]
