Georgia O'Keeffe Museum
Nashville, TN: (Aug-07-07) The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe had brought a lawsuit against Tennessee's Fisk University, over a painting by the artist, claiming that the university violated terms of O'Keeffe's bequest. In a recent development, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum dropped the lawsuit against the Tennessee University, and announced that it will take possession of one of the paintings, O'Keeffe's Radiator Building, Night, and New York. Further, as part of the settlement, Fisk University will receive $7.5 million dollars and permission to sell a second painting Marsden Hartley's Painting Number Three on the open market. The university says it hopes the settlement will allow it to shore up its precarious finances. The settlement is pending approval from the Davidson County, Tennessee, Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle.
