LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Talerico Construction Inc.
Seattle, WA: (Aug-14-07) The state of Washington filed charges against Talerico Construction Inc., a Puyallup construction firm, alleging that it damaged Puget Sound Energy's natural gas pipelines and underground electricity wires 10 times between December 2004 and May 2006. The state Office of the Attorney General filed the complaint against Talerico at the request of the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, which is in charge of safety inspections for 21,000 miles of natural gas and hazardous-liquid pipelines across the state. Sources claim that in 2006, six people were killed and 10 injured across the country after gas pipelines were ruptured through excavation. State law requires anyone digging to first identify underground utilities in the work area.
In a settlement reached, Talerico Construction agreed to immediately pay a $15,000 penalty for damaging Puget Sound Energy's natural gas pipelines and underground electricity wires. Further, it also agreed to pay $30,000 for any new violations of the state law protecting pipelines and other underground utilities, if those violations happen within the next two years.
