Holy Spirit Hospital
This is a settlement for the Medical Malpractice lawsuit.
Carlisle, PA: (Aug-17-07) The family of Kevin Dalton brought a medical malpractice lawsuit against Holy Spirit Hospital, after Dalton died weeks after undergoing abdominal surgery at the facility. In suing the hospital and several staffers, Dalton's family claimed he was misdiagnosed when he went to the emergency room complaining of abdominal pain in February 2002. The suit stated that complications from hernia surgery required Dalton to be on a ventilator to aid his breathing and alleged that Dalton died in March 2002 because medical personnel mishandled the situation when his breathing tube became blocked. In its defense, the hospital and the staff named in the suit denied the malpractice claim and said Dalton received careful, reasonable and prudent care.
In a settlement reached, Holy Spirit Hospital's insurance carrier agreed to a $750,000 payout to resolve the medical malpractice lawsuit. The deal was struck more than five years after the death of Dalton, 38, of Mechanicsburg. [PATRIOT NEWS: HERNIA SURGERY]
