Luzerne County Correctional Facility

Wilkes Barre, PA: (Aug-20-07) The Luzerne County Correctional Facility Board found itself faced with a lawsuit after Luke Blumer, an inmate, hung himself. Blumer, 19, hung himself on December 13, 1995, with bed sheets and shoelaces. The lawsuit alleged that though prison officials knew he was suicidal, they still chose to place him in a cell by himself without adequate supervision. The lawsuit was brought against Luzerne County Correctional Facility by his wife Nicole Blumer and the administrator of his estate. Though the county did not accept responsibility or admit any wrongdoing, it however, did concede to paying out $150,000 to settle the wrongful death lawsuit. [CITIZENS VOICE: PRISONER SUICIDE]
