New York, NY: (Sep-04-07) Maria Noto brought a lawsuit against the city of New York, after a city sanitation driver Tommy Puma ignored safety rules and backed his salt spreader up a Queens street, crushing the lady under the wheels and dragging her 40 feet. As a result of the accident, Noto lost her leg and life as she knew it. She used to spend Thursday nights out dancing with her husband and take weekly trips to Atlantic City and visits to her siblings' homes around the city.
In a settlement reached, the city paid Noto $5 million to resolve the personal injury lawsuit. Noto's was one of the top payouts in the 2007 budget year. Sources stated that the deal wasn't entirely satisfactory for Noto. Though Puma was reprimanded in connection with the incident, he kept his $57,000-a-year job, the city Law Department said. Noto claimed that the ruling was unfair as her life was almost dead, and his went on undeterred. [NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: SALT SPREADER ACCIDENT]
