LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Manchester, NH
This is a settlement for the Commercial lawsuit.
Manchester, NH: (Sep-04-07) Gilbane Building Co. brought a lawsuit against the city of Manchester, alleging that the city breached contract when it ordered the company to perform work not covered in its contract. The company has been continuing to work on the project, but city officials have accused its workers of stalling.
In a settlement reached, the city has agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle the dispute with Gilbane Building Co, the contractor in charge of Manchester's massive school renovation project. The settlement with Gilbane Building squares away the city's tab on the four-year project, which includes upgrades and additions to 21 city schools. In exchange, Gilbane agreed to dismiss its $10.8 million lawsuit against the city and complete some of the work on the city's to-do list. Under the agreement, Gilbane will complete a limited, defined scope of work, including minor installations at all three public high schools as well as drywall repairs elsewhere in the district. Committee members said the city will turn to another contractor to complete $1.8 million in work not covered in the agreement. [UNION LEADER: CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT]
