LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Camden County, NJ
Camden County, NJ: (Sep-06-07) Over 20,000 were involved in a lawsuit that was brought against Camden County, alleging that it was state policy for about two years to strip search every one sent to the jail awaiting trial, even if there was no reason to think the suspects were hiding contraband. The suit claimed that some people who were arrested on charges as minor as failure to pay parking tickets were held for up to 24 hours after they had paid bail while officials checked for other warrants. The lawsuit was resolved after Camden County agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle the lawsuit with people who were illegally strip searched at the county jail between 2003 and 2005. Sources state that as many as 20,000 may be eligible for the money, which would amount to about $1,000 per person. A smaller group who were held 12 to 24 hours after they posted bail could get even more. The settlement must be approved by a federal judge.

I was stripped searched, slept on the floor with no blanket, we had no toilet paper for 2 days, our sink was leaking on the floor.
I had to use my towel so my cot didn't get saturated and they refused to give me another towel. I could go on for hours, but the fact of the matter is no one cares. It's Camden you are guilty until proven innocent and your a joke once you are stuck in the broken criminal injustice system. Being on the winning side is more important than being on the right side...
