Shelley Stevenson
Black Hills, SD: (Sep-07-07) The YMCA brought a lawsuit against Shelley Stevenson, 36, of Rapid City, after an investigation showed that she issued herself several additional paychecks that didn't correspond to payroll dates. The lawsuit also claimed she had issued checks in the names of two other women who didn't work at the YMCA, and had issued a pay raise for herself to increase her wages by $3.80 an hour, which had not been approved by the board. The suit accused Stevenson of grand theft and forgery. Judge Randall Macy ordered the "deal off" after YMCA Attorney said the YMCA had never been consulted in the restitution amount and claimed the organization was entitled to $65,655.38, which includes interest and attorney fees, as claimed in a civil suit proceeding. A plea agreement had been reached with the state to determine restitution in the matter at $44,341.71. The new amount agreed upon is $46,000, with $25,000 being paid the day of sentencing and Stevenson agreed to plead guilty to grand theft.
