Priest Abuse

Chicago, IL: (Sep-20-07) The family of a 15-year-old boy brought a sexual abuse lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Chicago, alleging that their son was abused by Reverend Daniel McCormack. McCormack pleaded guilty in July 2007 to five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and was sentenced to five years in prison. The suit claimed that McCormack abused the teenager several times between 2001 and 2005 at Chicago's St. Agatha Parish, where the boy was a student and McCormack was a teacher and basketball coach. In a settlement reached, the Archdiocese of Chicago agreed to a $1.65 million payout with the family. Sources state that at least two other lawsuits against McCormack and the Archdiocese are pending. Cardinal Francis George stated that he wants to settle all the cases to spare families the trauma of court proceedings. [WAND TV NEWS: PRIEST ABUSE]
