Zenergy Inc.
Bismarck, ND: (Sep-21-07) North Dakota brought a lawsuit against Zenergy Inc., an Oklahoma based oil company, after a ruptured pipeline spilled nearly 1 million gallons of saltwater into a creek in northwestern North Dakota. The spill near Alexander, discovered in early January 2006, has been described as the worst in North Dakota's oil history. The saltwater, a byproduct of oil production, flooded a stock pond and a beaver dam, and flowed into Charbonneau Creek, a tributary of the Yellowstone River. Sources claimed that the spill resulted in a massive die-off of fish, turtles and plants along the creek.
In a settlement reached, the company agreed to a $123,300 payout to the state to resolve the lawsuit against it. Further, Zenergy Inc. stated that it had already spent $2 million cleaning up the site. Company officials claimed that the company has excavated tons of contaminated soil from the spill site, and that the creek is as clean as it was before the spill, and has been repopulated with turtles and fish.
